Leo Decans: First, Second, and Third Decans of the Zodiac Sign

In this post, we will talk about Leo decans. As you know there are three decans – first, second and third. The first decan – from July 23 to August 2, the second decan – from August 3 to August 12, the third decan – from August 13 to August 22.

In fact, the physical strength and power to control, which are characteristic of the Leo person and go together with an over-excitable nature and a certain ability to control his instincts, can just as easily prove to be instrumental in controlling and fixing the energy trapped in the endless cycle of rebirth. Leos are often people who, right from the start, use their brilliant willpower to influence their surroundings. What’s more, we know that Leo is a fixed sign which, as its name indicates, fixes the qualities it reveals in those born under this sign. In this case, it is Fire, the element associated with this sign, which is fixed. But its function is not to be fixed, but to burn in order to produce energy and heat, to change and purify.

Leo Decans: First, Second, and Third Decans of the Zodiac Sign

So, like Prometheus, Leos tend to steal the fire of God which burns inside them, and direct it away from godly instincts to their own advantage and fix it inside themselves in order to dominate and reign over the world. But the message given out through the Gospel according to Thomas, this divine fire cannot shirk its first and final function which is no free man from death.

We must not forget that the sign of Leo coincides with the harvest, symbolized by the sickle or scythe of death. By using this divine fire for his own gain so that he can rule the world, just like the Devil, Leo, symbolically, of course, is the reaper of death. By doing this, his energy becomes dissipated. However, Ra, the Egyptian Sun God and, later on, Christ was often represented by the mythical lion. Through the power of his will and the divine breath within him, he became immortal. He no longer deflected the primordial energy away from its goal but instead allowed it to circulate freely. In this way it constantly regenerates itself and therefore regenerates man, making him immortal and victorious. As we already mentioned there are 3 Leo Decans, so let’s check all these three decans one by one.

Leo in the first decan

Leo first decan – from about 23rd July to 2nd August

Our first illustration is of a lion who has an air of quiet strength about him and, also, as we are going to see, a certain heaviness and some sadness. He is handsome but not remarkable. But his whole appearance gives a feeling of bulk and weight. His head is bent forward.

You can make out a sort of grimace or twitch, like a sad face but, strangely, one that is peaceful too, as if he were carrying the weight of the harsh realities of life on his shoulders but had come to terms with it. Here we are face to face with the Saturnian Leo, overbearing and selfish and the most introverted of the Leos who, beneath a calm exterior, can go to extremes.

Leo in the second decan

Leo second decan – from about 3rd to 12th August

After the sad, heavy Leo here is the joyful, sensual, playful Leo – a Jupiter Leo when all is said and done. He radiates joie de vivre. His whole attitude signals his need to show off, attract attention, and arouse admiration. In fact, he gives off an air of lightheadedness that makes you think of a dog sitting and begging for the treats it craves. So he’s sitting on his back legs in a semi-tame position, holding up his two front legs and turning them under.

His whole body is straining forward but in an agile, lively way. His tail is raised in a perfect “S” with a fine plume of hair at its tip. His mane is magnificent, forming a mass of waves all around his head, curling around each other and covering his breast.

He has large, staring eyes – even though from his position sideways on we can only see one – looking straight in front of him as if he were staring at someone. Finally, another which clearly reminds us of a dog begging is his tongue hanging out of his mouth. So you see, this cheerful and rather likable creature has the look of a tame animal about him.

Leo in the third decan

Leo third decan – from about 13 to 22 August

He is the most mysterious and the heaviest of the three. In the first place, he is standing, motionless, his head pointing towards us with a fixed stare, but he is facing the opposite direction to the first two lions we’ve described.

In fact, before he got into this rigid position to look us in the eye, he seemed to be heading towards the right. Anyhow, he’s standing up, with his two front legs apart, his back left leg almost in the center underneath his body and his back right leg far behind his hindquarters, with all four firmly placed on the solid ground, which seems to be his only piece of scenery, as if to emphasize that this lion belongs somewhere.

His body is svelte, muscular, and cat-like with his tail passing between his two back legs and his stomach to form a loop whose feathery tip is lifting itself up towards the sky. As for his mane, it looks like something supernatural from the way it seems to form a compact block right around his head. In fact, his head and face look almost like a mask. This lion’s head has something human, fascinating, and disturbing about the eyes, nose, and mouth.

The bottom of his mane could even suggest a curly beard. Here we are well and truly in the Plutonian world of the human-animal if it can be put that way, the world where power and primitive instincts hold sway. For there the dividing line between man and breast is narrow – very narrow.
